Privacy Policy

Scope

This policy covers the CodexTutor app for iPhone, iPad and Mac, this site, and the bookstore at store.codextutor.com. All three are operated by K12TeacherTools (“we,” “our,” “us”).

Your reading progress

The app records which passages you have read, which words you have studied, which flashcard decks you have finished, and which texts are on your shelf. This is kept on your device. When you are signed in to iCloud, it also travels between your own devices through Apple’s CloudKit, in the private database of your iCloud account, which only your devices can read. Settings shows whether iCloud sync is running.

Preferences and unfinished sittings — text size, audio speed, your place in a lesson, the text a device is open on — stay on that device. Start over in Settings erases all of it, on every device signed in to your iCloud account.

What the app downloads

The app downloads its catalog, texts and audio from our content delivery network, run by Cloudflare. These are requests for static files, and they carry the same network information as loading a page in a browser, including your IP address, which Cloudflare handles as the CDN. Once a text is downloaded it can be read offline.

Bookstore orders

Ordering a printed edition involves the details an order needs. We work with service providers to take payment, print and post an order, and mail you about it — currently Stripe, Lulu and Resend.

  • Your email address, shipping address and order contents are stored in our order database, so we can fulfil the order and answer questions about it.
  • Stripe runs checkout and holds your card details. Payment information reaches Stripe directly.
  • Lulu receives your shipping address to print the order and post it to you.
  • Resend delivers order confirmations and tracking email.
  • The checkout form offers address suggestions as you type. What you enter in that field goes to an address lookup provider — currently Geoapify or Photon, on OpenStreetMap data.

This site and the bookstore

Both sites serve static pages, and neither asks you to make an account. The only information you enter that leaves your browser is what you type into the checkout form. The pages are not entirely silent, though: codextutor.com carries one advertising pixel, and the section below says exactly what it does.

Advertising

We buy advertising on Reddit, and codextutor.com carries Reddit’s advertising pixel so that we can tell whether an advertisement we paid for actually brought anyone here. The pixel sets a cookie in your browser and reports the visit to Reddit, which may match it to a Reddit account.

It runs on these web pages only. The app does not contain it. Nothing in this section describes the app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

  • Its single purpose is counting whether an advertisement worked. What it gathers is not sold, rented or shared, and it feeds nothing else we do.
  • Reddit is told that a browser visited codextutor.com, so that a click on one of our ads can be attributed to it. What Reddit does with that is governed by Reddit’s own privacy policy, not this one.
  • Blocking third-party cookies, or running an ad blocker, stops it. Nothing on this site depends on the pixel — every page works exactly the same when it is blocked.

Retention

Order records are kept for as long as we need them for support, replacements and accounting. Everything the app knows about you stays on your device and in your iCloud account until you erase it or delete the app.

Children

CodexTutor is intended for readers 13 and older. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through an order, contact us and we will delete it.

Your requests

Email us for a copy of your order records or to have them deleted, and we will respond within 30 days. Reading progress is yours to erase directly, in Settings.

Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes take effect when posted.
